The Last Day of August - A Word From Dub

Yesterday I spent some time with Gabby while mom went to a meeting. Gabby had this cold teething thing that she got out of the freezer and gave me to chew on. At first I was skeptical, but then it struck me as very entertaining.

Then she goes over to this table next to the couch and pulls out tons of tricks. She has two, TWO, slinkies in there. She let me play with this yellow one. Slinkies are pretty interesting. They make noises, they're neat colors. What will Gabby think of next?

Today was the second day of rice cereal. I think mom gets freaked out about the mess I make, but the mess is part of the fun!

Tummy time has definitely gotten better. In fact, I prefer it to back time now. Every time mom puts me down, I immediately flip over. I've found that this trick gets the most attention when the folks are trying to change my diaper.

More to come!! Big plans this weekend!

Wyatt's First Taste of Cereal

At Wyatt's appointment this week, we got the nod to start cereal. Not as anything supplemental, just as a "getting familiar with the process" type of preparation.
Well, you know I've purchased ten million books of making your own food and I'm ready to be on sweet potatoes already!

We started on Sunday with cereal (bor-ring).
But...it wasn't a complete fail, like I thought it would be.

Instead, Dub was interested in trying it over and over again.
First we had to get all of our equipment prepared.

Then we let Dub hold the spoon to get familiar with that. When he tried to put it in his mouth, I took over.

(he did go cross-eyed watching the spoon go into his mouth)

The cereal was 1 tsp of rice cereal and 2 Tbsp of milk. It was more milk than anything and I'll admit that a large part of it ended up on his bib.
But, our little trooper didn't give up. It was a good effort. I'm pleased.

My Dad & Me - A Word From Dub

I love my dad.
He makes me laugh.
He does all kind of fun noises and movements. When he comes home, I am immediately happy.
Weekends are the best! That's when we spend all of our time together.
He plays games with me called "got your leg" or "got your booty" where he grabs whatever part he names and shakes it. It's hilarious to me.
He's pretty much the best dad. Ever.

Hanging out in the living room...chewing on things.

Pool Party - A Word From Dub

Gabby had us all over last night for a pool party and I think everyone had a good time. We had hot dogs, burgers, cupcakes, potato salad, slaw, the whole nine yards.

My buddy, T, was at the party. We've hung out once before at T's book club party. He's a pretty cool guy...very hands on. He also talked to me about some new tricks I can do - like getting my foot into my mouth. Awesome!

(Foot in mouth discussion underway)

Dad and I also played a little football in the pool. Football season starts on Saturday and dad is really excited. Saturday at 11 will be my first ever ESPN College Game Day. I can't wait.

(Future Colt McCoy???)

The Last Week in August

Here s Dub at his 4 month appointment (even though I count him at 4 and 1/2 months or 18 weeks). He was a very good patient. The doctor said he was weighing in at 14lbs 8oz and that he was 25 and 1/2 inches tall. We got the green light to start cereal. We are also starting formula this week, so big changes are afoot. He's been a little cranky, but sure lights up when Jason gets home!

After his nap on Monday, Dub decided to explore the bedroom. He was almost completely under the bed when I came up to check on him. He's a fast mover. I shudder to think about how life will change once he can crawl. NOTHING will be safe. :)

On Tuesday night we went out with some friends and left Dub with his extraordinary sitter (who is amazing!). She sent us this photo of Dub hitting the bottle. This is his new M.O. while drinking. Pretty funny!

On Wednesday night, Dub and I cooked dinner together. This was his first experience with corn. He felt the corn all over and tried to get ahold of that pesky corn silk. Then he gave up and let me know he was done in the kitchen. But really...can you imagine a world where every single thing is new? He'd never seen or felt corn before. That seems so outrageous!

Today we celebrated Aunt Mary's 94th birthday. Dub was a perfect angel all through lunch! When we got home, we played dress-up for a bit, but he wasn't very interested in his fall wardrobe. Here he is in his cords, just like Gramps.

That's all for now. Tomorrow we're going to hang out at the pool with W's friend, Travis. Should be a good time! Pics to come.

The Jumperoo and Wyatt, too!

Now that Wyatt has decent control of his head/won't face plant, I decided it was time to unveil the jumperoo. This thing has about a million gadgets on it and I'm proud to say that I put it together myself with only one brief bit of help from Jas.

Here are some photos of Wyatt's first encounter with the Jumperoo, all in all, a success.

This thing has songs and blinking lights and I don't even know what to look at first. I'm definitely interested, though. I'll probably give it about ten minutes before I start to cry...

How do I get my hands on this darn lizard? My Gramps is a famous lizard catcher, so I've got to figure this out...

What? Someone put the TV on? What's playing? Anything I want to watch...

Back to the lizard. I'm going to get you, sucka. I've just got to figure this thing out...

And, I'm done. Get me out of here. Too much. Too much!

Some Things the Little Man "Needs"

Lindsay and I were having a convo today about Mini-Boden. I just ordered my first shipment of goods from them, and I highly recommend their products. They may be a little pricey, but they offer good discounts AND the quality was amazing. Here are some pics of Dub in his winter wear. This little knit hat is lined with fleece so that it's not so itchy on his baby head. The mittens - adorable.

On the "To Be Ordered" list, please add this little bear cover-up for colder temps. Jason says it reminds him of the Christmas Story bunny uniform and that Dub will NEVER wear anything like it. But...

We also have the striped hoodie with the star patch cords. Gramps wears cords, and we all know that imitation is the highest form of flattery. :) Can't wait for fall.

And speaking of fall, all summer we've been barefoot & enjoying it. But with cooler temps, should they ever show up, I imagine we'll need to be looking into some coverings for the little precious piggies.
These shoes are reversible, so if Dub is being his usual prince self, he can have the little prince side. And if he's not...then little monster might be the order of the day. Adorable!
These are from Robeez, but you can order them on amazon as well, and they're a bit cheaper - plus you get free shipping.

Anyone named Wyatt must have a pair of boots! Lucky for us, Robeez makes those, too. Soft soled and too cute for words -
Check them out:
Finally, Linds put me on to Janie & Jack, which I can only purchase while on sale. I've found the perfect thing for our baby gun slinger:
Those are my finds of the week.
I just read that my friend, Emily Mulkey of Emily Mulkey Photography is going to be hosting a fall photo shoot special. Prepare yourselves for some precious!

A Word From Dub..

Mom said that today makes day sixteen of temps over the 100 degree mark. Sounds like this was a good summer for Gabby and Gramps to put in that pool. I've been in the pool more times than I can count and I love it. Sometimes, while Gabby is holding me, I even fall asleep. It's so soothing and cool. And I love the color blue, so that helps make me feel calm & relaxed. Man, what are we going to do over there in the fall? What neat thing is Gramps going to install/perfect for me then?

(having a nap in Gabby's arms - so comfortable!)

I've really got this rolling down thing over, so I go from side to side and I can even prop up on my arms now and hold my head up for a real long time. I'm pretty proud of myself and smile the whole time. Mom set up a quilt for me downstairs, so we play down there during the day now. I found out that I have feet and that I can grab them, which provides hours of fun and hours of tooting. I can also use these magical feet to kick things - like the bathwater (so that I can make a huge mess), or those toys on my vibrating chair, or to kick away from mom when she's holding me too close. Who knew these things would be so helpful!

Norah keeps watch over me, she's a good dog and very protective. I already know she loves me to pieces. Zoey pretty much minds her own business, and Stella is interested, but I think Norah told her to back off. Norah reminds me of that dog in the book that mom reads me at night, Good Dog, Carl by Alexadra Day. I'll bet she helps me get into all kinds of messes in the future.

I also like the dog mom got me named Scout. He scared me at first, but we're getting along much better now.

I go back to the doctor for my 4 month appointment next Wednesday. Other than that, just planning to celebrate my cousin EJ's birthday and get in some more pool time.

Well, off to nap time!

What We're Reading

I am in love with The Quiet Book by Deborah Underwood with illustrations by Renata Liwska.
This adorable, adorable tale is a collection of times that you are quiet. Ranging from "oops" moments, to moments of stillness, to moments of great joy, Liwska's gorgeous pencil drawings make each character feel cozy and the digitally added color makes you feel as if you could enjoy all of those quiet moments yourself...right before a cozy little nap. Underwood's situational quiets manage to be cute, funny, serious, and absolutely heart warming.
This is definitely one for the collection!

Jones Design Company's Project Idea

So last night while little man was asleep and Jas was watching the DVR, I whipped out my instructions from Jones Design Company and my craft bag - and went to work.

After I saw JDC's elaborate and helpful step-by-step post on how to make these precious shirts, my mind took off like a hamster in a wheel. From 3am-4am the other night, after feeding the baby, I had brainstorm after brainstorm...so last night, I put pen to paper, so to speak.

This is my first attempt.
My hand stitch needs some work and I didn't realize that the fusible web came in different gauges, but I'm on the right track now.

Can't wait to try it again during nap time. :)

What We're Reading

Always, we are trying new books.
This week, Wyatt has been enjoying the art and text of author Carin Berger.
You can click here to see a sample of her work.
Forever Friends is amazing and Wyatt is definitely drawn to the colors and the simplicity of the space used. The paper cut collages are neat to look at, there is always something to draw both the adult eye and a child's eye. For 32 pages this little guy will sit still. That says more than I ever could!

August - the first week of...

ooohhh...this boy is going to be trouble. :)

How is it already August?
Wyatt will be four months old next week - time sure does fly. I'm sure he'll be going to college next and I will be thinking "what the heck happened???".
My friends have started going back to work, so the fun lunches are slowly rolling to a stop.
For now, though, we are just wishing that this heat would break and fall would come. I have a feeling we're going to be waiting awhile on that one. :) A new AC is in the works, in the meantime.

(don't those straps look like horns? Thanks, Aunt Becky, for the use of the swing. He likes it, despite this crazy look on his little face.)

So...what have we been up to?
Well...Wyatt got his first talking toy, Scout.
Scout sings several songs, including a song all about Wyatt's favorite things (like color, food, and pet...I've had to make some guesses on those). When we play it, Wyatt generally looks apprehensive, but I think he will like it when he's a bit bigger.

He's been playing a little soccer in his playpen. I think we might have a little Clint Dempsey on our hands...look at those skills!!!

I also ordered Wyatt's Halloween costume. Little man is going to be a pumpkin, at Aunt Kitties urging. He's going to be precious!

(This is the Pottery Barn model baby, but just imagine how Dub will look! Ten times cuter!!)

He's been enjoying the time we've spent at Gabby's. Next week we plan on spending three days with Gabby and as Jason's travel schedule increases, I imagine we'll be taking up residence in Gabby's back room from time to time. We are lucky to have Gabby & Gramps (and the pool)!

Jason and I have been taking Wyatt and the three dogs out for a walk in the evening when it cools down. Dub loves glancing around at everything and I think he likes the bumpy motion of the stroller. He's got a pretty sweet ride...I wouldn't mind being pushed around in it myself. Wyatt also had his first trip to the mall this week - we tooled his little stroller all over The Galleria. Much like his father, Dub put up a huge protest while at the mall, but don't worry, we'll try again in the future.

We are looking forward to meeting up with Laura and Eric now that they're back in town. Yippee!! Aunt Kitties is away in the Hamptons, but we have a swim date set up for next week.
So, that's what we have to report for this week.
