XY...Zucchini

Wyatt has been doing so well with oatmeal cereal, that for our mid-afternoon feeding we decided to steam zucchini. Being Jason's son and all, I wasn't real sure how Wyatt's first green veggie puree was going to go...

I started by giving the Sous Chef a little something to play with, then I got my Cooking Light First Foods Cookbook ready.

After slicing, steaming, and blending up the zucchini, my little taster was ready to go!

Though the face indicates a general dislike, he did chow down on the greens - managing to take out 2 Tablespoons before throwing in the towel. We will continue our date with zucchini for about a week before moving on to either sweet potatoes or peas. Such tough decisions...

Goodbye Summer, Welcome Fall

Mom said this week is the last week of summer and the start of fall. I don't know what that really means. All I know is that she keeps dressing me in orange.

I've also noticed that it's not so hot in the mornings when mom takes me out in the stroller. We go for a long walk and I get to watch the planes and check out all of the dogs who are also out for walks. Mom tries to point out interesting flowers, but everyone knows that boys don't care about flowers - BORING.
While I was at Gabby's this week, we did some swimming. Gramps said he was shutting down the pool this week since it's fall (there's that word again). I guess I won't be wearing any more swim pants for awhile. That's too bad, too, because I just noticed this turtle thing that's in the pool. I'd really like to give it more of a look, but I guess I"ll have to wait until next summer. Investigating is a lot of work for a guy like me, so after we got out of the pool, I had a little snooze in Gabby's lap.

Today I tried Oatmeal for the first time and I really liked it. Mom said I had more of it on my face and in my lap than in my tummy. She even let me hold the spoon. She's getting the hang of this. She also gave me water in a cup. She called it a sippy cup. Dumb name, if you ask me. It was kind of difficult to get the water out of it, so I'll probably stick with the bottle for awhile longer.

Well, it's the time in the day when I get cranky and demand attention. Better get to it...

Just Photos

Mr. Spoon- I've got you under control.

I gave Wyatt this spoon the other day while I was washing dishes. He leaned over and banged it all around the inside of the sink making the most noise possible - what a boy!! He was very interested in the spoon and wanted to hold it for most of the evening.

Here is Wyatt's winter coat.
It fits better than this picture indicates and is not actually a mid-riff coat, but look at that little face. OOOhhh! I just want to kiss that baby bear!

This is serious Wyatt, enjoying cords - taking a page from Gramps' style book.

What? Is someone making fun of Cordy? They better stop!

Believe it or not, we actually put Dub to bed on his back in the middle of the bed. He is a little wiggle worm, though and manages to wedge himself into the corner every night.

This is Prince Wyatt's first experience with a pillow.

And finally, here we have Wyatt giving thanks for his mom (at least that is what I think...)

Busy Day

We picked Gabby up around nine yesterday, loaded up the car, and drove East to Tyler. With Gabby in the back to entertain Wyatt, the trip went smoothly. She pulled so many things out of her purse for him to play with, it started to feel like a joke. However, he was riveted and was such a good baby for the trip.

We stopped in Edom to check out the Birdhouse store. Then we went to a few other places that we won't mention because we can't say anything nice.

We picked up grandma & grandpa and headed over to Donna's, where the party was waiting.

Look at these sweet, sweet babies!!

M, you're my kind of girl!

Hey, pal - how about a pat on the shoulder?

Grandma & Great Grandson

Gabby & Dub, M, Nana, & B

The Greats!

Passed out in Great Grandma's arms. What a spot!

By seven, we were back in Dallas and only a little off of the routine. What a great trip. We enjoyed, so much, visiting with the family. Can't wait to do it again soon!

What We're Reading Now

Our latest shipment of books arrived last week and we've just finished reading them.

We can now highly, highly recommend:

LMNO Peas by Keith Baker

Each pea (or group of peas) is up to something and it just so happens that the activity corresponds with the letter of the alphabet being represented. Absolutely adorable. The peas doing yoga are my favorite, but there are so many precious peas, you'll find more to appreciate each time you read it.

Author Marla Frazee hit the nail on the head when she wrote Boss Baby. When this baby arrives, it is very clear who is in charge. We have a Boss Baby in our house, so I found each Boss Baby antic to be hilarious and spot on. Please, please get this book if you have a baby! Your sleep deprived brain will get a real kick out of the suit and tie onesie, the late night meetings, the made-to-order drinks, and so much more.

Mirror Mirror: A Book of Reversible Verse is just fascinating. Author Marilyn Singer presents us with the classic fairy tales in verse. But with just a change in punctuation and capitalization, she takes the exact same verse and gives us a whole new perspective. It is appropriate for older readers already familiar with the tales, but it is really a work of literary art.

And finally, Lane Smith, tongue-in-cheek author/illustrator of so many great books for kids (especially for boys), gives us It's A Book. Mouse, Ape, & Jackass discuss the idea of a book. In a world of tech savvy kiddos, a book seems like a foreign idea to everyone except Ape. What can you do with it? You'll definitely want to preview this one before purchase. Having a main character named "Jackass" may be problematic in your home. I thought it was hysterical.

More to come! We keep amazon in business around here...

Aunt Kitties' B-Day

This was a super busy weekend.

It started when Jason went to Austin for Nick's bachelor party. Dub and I went to mom and dad's house for a wedding shower and then Katie's birthday.

Dub and I were able to spend some time with our friend, T. We were all dressed and ready for the UT game. Hook 'em!

Sunday, Dub and I got up and met our friend, JP, for breakfast at Restaurant Ava. What spectacular company and what delicious food.

By 4pm, everyone was back at mom and dad's to celebrate Katie's birthday. Katie, Brad, Jason, mom, dad, and Dub all enjoyed mac and cheese, swimming, and opening presents. It was a good day.

Happy birthday, Aunt Kitties!

Labor Day Weekend

It's pouring rain here this morning and the power is out so Dub and I are grounded for now. So far we've done 4 loads of laundry and we've each had two breakfasts. We've pretty much done enough for one day, in my opinion.

Our labor day weekend was full of fun.

Jas came home early on Friday, so he and Wyatt were able to hang out before Jas went to play hockey. Wyatt is into exploring faces now and he loves to touch Jason's beard.

While those two napped, I put together several more t-shirts and sweatshirts. This one is my favorite!

Saturday morning, we hung out in bed since ESPN's Sports Center starts at 9:30 now. Everyone was excited about the game and couldn't wait for 2:30 to come. We had brunch at Torchy's Tacos, an Austin staple brought to Dallas, and we were even able to sit outside since the weather was so amazing. Then...it was game time.

Jas & Dub fooling around on the commercial break. Hard to say who is having more fun.

Dub, wearing the shirt I made for him. We only had two spit-up related outfit changes all day, so that was wonderful!

On Sunday, Aunt Kitties came over and we all went for a long walk. After, Kitties hung around and Dub thought that girl was hilarious!

In this picture, Dub is snuggled up with the blanket Terry made him. He loves it because he can get his fingers into all of the little knitted loops and move it around. Thanks, Terry!

We spent Monday over at Gabby's place, but didn't take any pictures. A big portion of the family was there and there was so much good food and good company. Great party!
And today...we're just resting...because the garage door won't open until the power comes back on.
